Free Bubble Wonders show at Grand Marais Library Amanda St. John Grand Marais Public Library’s Summer Reading Program continues to inspire young readers ‘find their voice’ this month with a live performance of Bubble Wonders, an uplifting show, full of surprises, using bubbles to encourage participants to follow their dreams.
Allie Duclos has left the amateur ranks and is now log-rolling and, boomrunning professionally against the top women in North America. Duclos, 17, made her professional women’s log rolling debut at the LumberjackGames-Splash n’ Dash in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

This was the first time in more than 40 years that the Grand Marais Lions July 4th fireworks weren’t lit by Bob Spry, a certified fireworks operator and a “Mr. Do Everything” for the Lions and community in general.

Brian Larsen When the United States and Canada couldn’t decide who was going to pay for a bridge over the Pigeon River that would connect the two countries, the Rotary clubs in Thunder Bay and Duluth agreed they would get together to plan, fund and build the bridge, and that’s just what they did in 19161917. Brian Larsen Levi Axtell’s criminal case was temporarily suspended, and he won't be brought to trial until he is 'returned to competency,' a judge ruled in a review hearing held through Zoom on Monday, July 10, in Cook County District Court without an appearance by Levy, who has been committed to the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Neither Cook County Attorney Molly Hicken nor Levi's attorney Christa Groshek objected to the judge’s ruling, and over the following months, Levi's mental health will be re-evaluated.
Brian Larsen At the Grand Marais City Council meeting held at the end of June, City Councilors received information concerning the new law that will soon go into effect about the use of marijuana and its byproducts. Grand Marais Mayor Tracy Benson said she was at the League of Minnesota Cities Conference, joining with more than 700 folks from around the state, and a big topic of discussion was around the new cannabis legislation.
