I apologize (not easy to say) for incorrect information in last week’s Letter’s to the Editor. The date for the public meeting on the Capital Improvement Plan was wrong. It had the August 8 date, but the meeting will be held August 22. Keep that date free and clear and bring your questions.
The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County Council on Aging received grants from the Otto Bremer Trust. The Clinic was awarded a $50,000 grant for the Oral Health Task Force program, which provides preventive and restorative dental care for youth aged 0-26, expectant mothers, and low-income seniors in Cook County and the Grand Portage Reservation.

We have a broad scope of responsibility for the administration of mandated state and federal programs that provide critical support to vulnerable children and adults in our community.

Dr. Brown and her daughter Olivia with the help of Tilly Holtan picked out the winning “Bakers Choice Award” which went to Coco a 4-month cocker spaniel owned by Aysha Korf who also received a free visit but had left the show before we could give it to her. (We have it if she comes forward).
It was a good day for the locals during the end-of-the Fisherman’s Picnic drawing for prizes. The top three cash prizes all went to residents of Cook County, a rarity.
The Grand Marais Rec Park is a busy place this summer and with the Fisherman’s Picnic here, it will be even busier. While noticing that the occupancy was flat when compared to last July, Park Director David Tersteeg said “given our 3 percent rate increase year-overyear, the revenue was up 3 percent in July versus July 2022.
