City of Grand Marais looks to ReLeaf Community Forestry grant program

Brian Larsen Grand Marais Mayor Tracy Benson appeared before the Grand Marais Rec Park Board on September 5 to share some information about a new program aimed at enhancing community forest health. Benson noted that during recent storms a lot of trees have come down across the city, so this new initiative might be a good fit for Grand Marais to apply for.

Grand Marais Rec Park Board

Brian Larsen In 2022, the Rec Park's 18 Lakeside campsites grossed $152,000, a hefty sum, but should those campsites be removed to create more greenspace for the public? Or should they stay to produce more revenue for the City of Grand Marais, with some of those dollars helping to keep the levy down?

Hospital board raises 2024 levy

Brian Larsen Citing rising costs throughout the system, on August 24 the North Shore Health hospital board voted to raise the levy from $1,500,000 to $1,725,000 for 2024, an increase of $225,000 over last year. The increase is the result of two main factors said Hospital Director/ CEO Kimber Wraalstad.
