Painters kept their paint brushes moving quickly during the 90-minute Birney Quick Paint Plein Air competition held at Artist Point last Thursday, September 21. And while rain threatened, it never came, and painters and throngs of gawkers and plein air fans were treated to a beautiful fall afternoon on the harbor.

The discovery came through a tip from a family member who was taking care of the property owned by a Blaine man.
March 4, 1971 Snow Sculpture occupied a special activities period in the Grand Portage School last week. Some rather interesting sculptures resulted: including turtles, snowmobiles, rabbits, and chickens.
North Shore Health has submitted a plan to participate in the Minnesota Nursing Facility Workforce Incentive Grant Program that, if accepted, will help retain and recruit employees. With care centers across the state needing to catch up in retaining and hiring employees, in 2023, the Minnesota Legislator passed an incentive grant program to offer up to $3,000 to recruit or retain staff.

Come share and connect with others who have also experienced grief in their journey of life. This common ground can often help us heal, make us feel less alone, and even inspire us to help others.
Duluth based visual artist Paul LaJeunesse will create a mural that will be permanently displayed on the Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply building in Grand Marais, and is scheduled to be installed October 4th and 5th of 2023. The 10 foot by 20 foot painting titled “Forge” is a collaged image of Northlands landscape and waterways.
The Arrowhead Eagles Aviation Organization held it’s annual fund raising event at Grand Marais/ Cook County Airport on September 16th. The fly-in and drive-in pancake breakfast is a tradition that welcomes community members and pilots to an open house at the airport in a large hangar. It’s a chance to see airplanes up close, talk with pilots and even take an airplane ride. Three local vintage airplanes were on display, a 1940 Piper J-3 Cub, 1946 Taylorcraft (which won the Grand Champion Award at EAA Air Venture in Oshkosh), and a 1958 Piper Tri-Pacer, along with numerous other aircraft, and a 1938 Stinson S-10 project.
