Earth shakes, quakes, Lutefisk out, Fishcakes in
Brian Larsen Zoar Church located in the historically Scandinavianbased fishing village of Tofte just announced that Lutefisk is off the menu for the upcoming November 4th dinner at Zoar that is open to the public. (Wait for the earth to stop trembling and then proceed reading.) Lutefisk lovers (there are at least two in the county) will have to adjust and try the new offering.
Tofte Fire & Rescue helps children learn about Fire Prevention Week
Many thanks to Tofte Fire & Rescue for coming to Birch Grove for Fire Prevention Week. Tofte members talked with the students and Saplings in the gym about home fire safety, 'Stop, Drop, and Roll,' and answered many 'What If ' questions.
Girl Scout Troop supports Arrowhead Animal Rescue
Local Girl Scout Brownie Troop 4070 had recently completed their 'pet care' badge and received some special visitors to their meeting: Arrowhead Animal Rescue members and three adorable kittens! The troop of local 7 and 8 year olds is led by Terri Poe and Gwen Danfelt. 'The girls are all animal lovers and pet owners, and they had questions about animal rescue in Cook County and asked if we could visit an animal shelter.

Becoming Involved in Local Government Local government is not and should not be a spectator sport. The more engaged residents are in influencing local decision making, the more likely it is that decisions made by local governing bodies will reflect the will of the community.
Area workshop geared toward timber management and taxation
The University of Minnesota Extension will present the Timber Management & Taxation School designed to provide tax professionals, foresters, logging contractors, landowners, agricultural lenders, and farm management instructors with up-to-date information on federal tax treatment of income and expenses associated with the sale of timber.
Letters to the Editor
A recent Senate Finance Committee investigation pointed out that at least 1,000 Americans who make more than $1 million a year failed to file tax returns over multiple recent years. The report states that these wealthy Americans potentially owe $34 billion in taxes. This is an outrage. That’s $34 billion that should be going to support the government programs and services from which we all benefit.
Request for Proposals: Cramer Road Residential Development, Cook County, Minnesota
The Housing and Redevelopment Authority of Cook County, Minnesota (the “HRA”) is requesting proposals from qualified entities for the development of residential housing in Cook County, Minnesota. In May of 2023, the HRA entered into an Option Agreement for a 40-acre parcel (county parcel ID 20-203-1200) on Cramer Road in Schroeder Township (the “Property”; see Appendix A), for the development of multiple residential housing units.
