Superior National Forest’s Employee Awarded with new Memorial Award for excellence in coordinating partners for shared land management and conservation work

In 2023, the Superior had over 1,000 volunteers, contributing over 6,000 hours of project work. Outstanding partnership coordination by Superior’s recreation and wilderness staff was celebrated by honoring Jon Benson, receipt of the Inaugural Michael Manlove Memorial Award by the Boundary Waters Advisory Committee The Superior National Forest’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) at over 1 million acres contains 2,000 wilderness campsites,1,200 miles of canoe routes, and 12 hiking trails.

Ski teams rock!

The Cook County Alpine ski boys' and girls' ski teams had three races over the Martin Luther King weekend: Two at Giants Ridge on Saturday and one on Monday at Mont Du Lac. The two meets at Giants Ridge are called the MLK Invite.

Six Northeast Minnesota projects receive CERTs Seed Grants for community-based clean energy efforts

Minnesota's Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) is awarding seed grants to 45 energy efficiency and renewable energy projects—including six within the northeast region of Minnesota. The projects range from educational outreach on clean energy incentives, energy efficiency for manufactured homes, and skill-building for clean energy careers.
