The tax-paying public of Grand Marais should question the decisions of your mayor and city council on their plan of tearing down the liquor store and city hall and replace them with a new liquor store and city hall. You already own the property.

Update on the Cook County’s Capital Improvement Plan information session

At the recent Committee of the Whole Meeting on February 20, one of the agenda items was a Capital Improvement Plan Information Session. Two staff from CRBPS, the firm that developed the county’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for buildings, provided a review of the process that it and Cook County undertook to develop the plan. Then, they responded to questions posed by our county commissioners.

In the Herald-News editorial, a man wrote that allowing children and young people to explore their gender identity can cause most people to be uncomfortable and that the 99% of ‘normal’ (my characterization) people shouldn’t have to be surprised or uncomfortable because of it. The right of the majority is our country’s rule, he proclaims. This past week, news came out in Oklahoma that a young student, named Nex Benedict, was bullied and beaten by their classmates because they identify as non-binary. The parents were called to bring Nex home and were told they (the youth) was suspended because of an altercation in the bathroom with three girls. Even though Nex was bleeding and bruised, no police were called or medical care offered. The parents took Nex to the emergency room, where Nex was treated and released. The next day they collapsed, and an ambulance was called. Nex was pronounced dead at the scene.

I want to thank Mr. Wizykoski for introducing me to Lia Thomas, the first openly transgender athlete to win a Division I national championship. She is valiantly challenging the transphobia and sexism in sports. It is a great dialogue and brings to light the gender divide in sports and how it is more based on assumptions rather than science.

Laws cannot be enforced; justice is always the loser; criminals crowd out honest people and twist the laws around.” In 1947 a Bedouin shepherd happened across several old scrolls preserved in earthenware vessels hidden in caves above the Dead Sea. Many of the hand-written ancient parchments contained biblical texts of the Old Testament, some thousand years older than previously known Hebrew manuscripts.
