Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Trail Enthusiasts Gather in Minneapolis
Several trail organizations doing advocacy and trail maintenance work in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (“BWCAW”) hosted an event at the U of M’s Hubert Humphrey School of Public Affairs Saturday in Minneapolis. The event has been held annually, and this was the first time it was held in Minneapolis at this venue. Hosting organizations were Boundary Waters Advisory Committee (“BWAC”), Border Route Trail Association (“BRTA”), the Kekekabic Chapter of the North County Trail Association, and the North Country Trail Association (“NCTA”). The organizations were happy to have Leave No Trace as a guest at the event.

Minnesota state park summer tours now taking reservations
This summer, Minnesota state parks will offer tours introducing visitors to the Iron Ranges’ mining history, prairie life, and the longest cave in the state. Reservations are now available for tours at Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine, Blue Mounds, and Forestville/Mystery Cave state parks.
Revising the 10-Year Transportation Plan
The Cook County Highway Department is delaying three projects, originally scheduled for 2024 construction, to the 2025 construction season. They include the following: • Gunflint Trail “Mill the Hill” and Little Devil Track River bridge replacement • Tofte Park Road reconstruction • Spruce Creek bridge replacement on Cascade Beach Road This change was presented to and approved by the board of commissioners on March 26, 2024.
Tofte Township annual meeting
With no controversies looming, it was a pretty quiet annual Tofte Township meeting in Tofte. The three candidates up for election, Gordon Engstrom, Treasurer, Amanda (April) Fredrick, Clerk, and Sam Crowley, Supervisor, each won with 16 votes.
Time to sign up for the Bob Pratt Doubles Cribbage Tournament
A fun way to contribute to the Bob Pratt Skills, Trades, and Technology Scholarship Fund is to sign up and play in the double- elimination cribbage tournament. The cost is $40, and the field is limited to 32 teams.
