Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Trail Enthusiasts Gather in Minneapolis

Several trail organizations doing advocacy and trail maintenance work in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (“BWCAW”) hosted an event at the U of M’s Hubert Humphrey School of Public Affairs Saturday in Minneapolis. The event has been held annually, and this was the first time it was held in Minneapolis at this venue. Hosting organizations were Boundary Waters Advisory Committee (“BWAC”), Border Route Trail Association (“BRTA”), the Kekekabic Chapter of the North County Trail Association, and the North Country Trail Association (“NCTA”). The organizations were happy to have Leave No Trace as a guest at the event.

10 YEARS AGO APRIL 5, 2014 v Last week the Cook County News-Herald reported that several Great Lakes vessels were making progress past Grand Marais and Grand Portage towards Sault St. Marie with assistance of Coast guard ice breaking tugs.

Revising the 10-Year Transportation Plan

The Cook County Highway Department is delaying three projects, originally scheduled for 2024 construction, to the 2025 construction season. They include the following: • Gunflint Trail “Mill the Hill” and Little Devil Track River bridge replacement • Tofte Park Road reconstruction • Spruce Creek bridge replacement on Cascade Beach Road This change was presented to and approved by the board of commissioners on March 26, 2024.
