HRA to request one-time levy money to reduce rents, but recent passage of legislation might make that request mute

On May 15, Cook County Housing Redevelopment Authority Director Jason Hale met with the HRA Board of Directors to discuss the pivotal Bjorkberg and The Heights projects. These projects are currently in the crucial phase of finalizing funding and agreements with contractors.

Free early literacy program for children birth to age five

Come join us for Learning Opportunities Through Stories (LOTS) this summer! There will be story time with a featured book, activities, and an opportunity to make new friends! New books will be read at every session. All children birth to age five will receive a copy of the featured book or a board book. Older siblings are encouraged to attend and select their own free book. Book offerings will be the same at all locations. LOTS is a program of the North Shore Collaborative.

The Grand Marais Memorial Rose Garden a blooming success

It was 55 years ago, in 1969, that the Memorial Rose Garden came to be. It was originally planted in the triangle near the intersection of Third Avenue West and Wisconsin Street before being moved to its new location in 1982, with the edging and walkway added in 2008. Each year, the garden has entranced residents and visitors alike with its spectacular blooms. And each year, Grand Marais Garden Club volunteers carefully tend to its needs, ensuring it will remain a focal point of vibrancy and color for all to enjoy for this year and for the many years to come.
