No one is above the law

Where does one begin, again, with the 76th year of occupation and apartheid and genocide as marked by international experts and court orders to halt collective punishment and forced displacement. Where does one begin with western governments applying double standards and intimidation of ICC justices with open threats- seems rogue state esque to me. No one is above the law, that must be the truth, otherwise it is all private law that can be bought and sold and that means no one is safe.

Linda Lamb

Linda Marie Lamb, nee Lawrence, 79, of Schroeder, MN, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024, in Duluth, Mn. Born on September 17, 1944, to Thomas Donald and Dorothy Lawrence in North St. Paul, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Timothy Lawrence.

Oberg makes All-Conference

Area coaches selected senior Amery Oberg for All-Conference honors. The CCHS centerfielder will play in the all-star fastpitch softball game that will be played in Duluth at Wheeler Fields on June 18, starting at 11 a.m. Amery will continue playing sports in college, but next year, she will leave her softball glove behind, take her tennis racket to UW Superior, and join the women's tennis team.

Hunter Gomez was selected to the All-Conference baseball team

CCHS Senior Hunter Gomez, an outstanding shortstop and pitcher on the Viking’s baseball team, was selected as a Polar League All-Star. Hunter was also named All-Section for the 7th Section of the Minnesota High School League, Class A. As a Polar League All-Star, Hunter has been invited to play in the Polar League All-Star game at Wade Stadium in Duluth on June 18. Hunter has signed a scholarship offer to play baseball at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Cook County joins the AARP and Minnesota Age Friendly Communities Network, Plans Recognition Celebration

At their April 16 meeting, the Cook County Public Health and Human Services Board voted unanimously to join the Age Friendly Communities Network. On Tuesday, June 25 from 10:00 -11:30 a.m., there will be a recognition celebration of the County’s induction to the Age-Friendly Network at the Grand Marais Art Colony’s Studio 21. Community members are welcome to attend.

Grand Portage Flag Graces the Cook County Courtroom

On Friday, May 31, the parking lot at the Cook County Courthouse was filled to capacity and the neighboring streets were lined with cars. Members of our community including residents, elected officials, county employees, Grand Portage tribal members, and those associated with the sixth judicial district filled the courtroom for the addition of the Grand Portage flag to the collection of flags, both federal and state, already posted. The Stonebridge Singers and their drum were in the center of the courtroom, as the Grand Portage Honor Guard entered the room and then stopped adjacent to the singers.
