Cook County Plant & Gear Exchange aims to connect with others through knowledge and sharing

And while there are wonderful community gardens and gardening clubs throughout Cook County, having an event where people can chat and exchange is an extra special occasion.

Grand Portage and North House Folk School awarded IRRR grants

BRIAN LARSEN On Tuesday, June 18, the Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation board announced it had awarded $492,500 in Culture and tourism grants to 27 projects, two of which were in Cook County. The Grand Portage Reservation Tribal Council Business Committee, Grand Portage, was awarded $30,000 to construct a playground at the Grand Portage Community Center, which houses the Oshki Ogimaag Charter School, after-school programming, and youth summer camps.

Anna Lorraine Nelsen

A graveside blessing and interment for Ann Nelsen will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Grand Marais on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the church hall at St. John’s Catholic Church in Grand Marais, to end to later than 3:00 p.m.. Anna (Ann) Lorraine Nelsen, aged 86, died on April 18 in Hopkins, MN. The funeral took place at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis in April.

Happy Hikers 2024

CAROL MORGEN The purpose of the group is to build community, and get out and enjoy the natural beauty of our surroundings here on the North Shore and Gunflint Trail. We have a nice lineup of 13 hikes planned, beginning July 3, and ending September 25.

Free Youth Day Passes for Cook County Residents

Cook County Public Health and Human Services, in collaboration with the Cook County YMCA, is offering 400 free day passes to local youth through the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) grant. This grant is a consortium partnership that includes several other local and regional service providers, each of our local schools and Cook County Higher Ed. The grant focuses on substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery. Through our prevention work, providing local youth with safe and accessible options to spend their summer days is an important piece to promoting protective factors that help prevent and reduce substance use.
