Local Girl Scouts welcomed spring with their annual Mother-Daughter high tea. Mothers, grandmothers, and sisters from Troop #4112, #4111, and #4070 were treated to a Mad Hatter Tea Party on April 27th at the Hovland Town Hall.
This picture shows Carl Ridgeway being congratulated by the French Brigadier General at a recent track meet in Singelfingen, Germany. At other meets in Germany, he has won first in the pole vault, second in the 400-meter dash, and first in the 400-meter relay.
Grand Marais Library Director Amanda St. John issued a short press release on Wednesday, June 12 stating, 'Grand Marais Public Library will be closed from Wednesday, June 12, 2024, through Saturday, June 15, 2024, for staff wellness and to implement new safety measures. Library Director Amanda St. John explained, 'Our staff needs time to adjust to updated safety protocols following recent events.' We plan to reopen on Monday, June 16th, at 10 AM. Thank you for your understanding. ' Last week one of the librarians received death threats from a local man on a Facebook post. Local authorities were contacted but no arrest was made.
The Cook County Highway Department has lifted all seasonal load restrictions, and all gravel roads will open to legal haulers. Cook County thanks everyone for their patience while conditions were monitored throughout the spring season.

A free, live performance featuring Patrick Scully Joining the community’s month-long celebration of LGBTQIA2+ Pride, Grand Marais Public Library presents Patrick Scully in a solo theatrical performance of Portrait of the Artist as a Young Gay Man. Taking place at the library on June 21, 2024, the event is free and open to the public.
