After reading your Cook County Connections article about the commissioners trying to figure out the new cannabis law in Minnesota, I thought I should inform you and your readers of the federal implications of cannabis in the United States.

All positions had candidates that filed except School Board District 4, with the option for write-ins still available on the ballot for November.
Nancy Nelms Leonard, 66, died Saturday, August 10, of pancreatic cancer. Nancy was born July 16, 1958, in Grand Marais, where she spent most of her life.
Cook County – The November ballot is now complete for Cook County election positions. Each open seat on the hospital board is being contested.
Milan Schmidt is running against Doug Sanders for the District 2 seat on the hospital board. Doug Sander's wife, Mary, is currently the District 2 representative but has chosen not to run again. The Cook County Chamber of Commerce Annual Membership Drive and Fish Fry, held on Wednesday, August 21st, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Visit Cook County Information Center (116 W Hwy 61, Grand Marais), drew a nice crowd. The event was designed to be inclusive, welcoming both Chamber members and those not yet Chamber members to the casual, outdoor gathering. North Superior Fisheries, a brand new member of the Chamber, provided fresh, local fish. A Raffle Drawing was held at 6 p.m. (after the paper's deadline) for an 11'2 Zebrawood All Day Greyduck Paddle Board. Attendees had the exciting opportunity to meet fellow business owners and community members, fostering new connections and learning about the benefits of membership and how the Chamber supports local businesses. All in all, it was a nice event with a welcoming, fun, atmosphere.
