A bachelor party took a tragic turn when one of the attendees was injured and later succumbed to his injuries, casting a somber shadow over what was meant to be a joyous occasion. A 31-year-old Thunder Bay, Ontario man, Kristopher Reginato, died from injuries he sustained in a golf cart rollover accident on June 1 when a golf cart he was driving tipped and rolled.
The Grand Marais City Council met at the county courthouse on Wednesday, September 11, and set the 2025 preliminary levy at 6.75 percent. The final levy can be reduced but not increased from the 6.75 percent figure.
The Cook County High School girls varsity volleyball team defeated the Lakeview Christian Academy volleyball team three games to two in a match played here on Tuesday, September 10. With the win, the Vikings up their record to two wins and two losses.
On September 5, the North Shore cross country middle school boys and girls team traveled to the Pattison Golf Course in Superior, Wisconsin, to compete in the Dan Conway Classic high school cross country race(s).
Kyle Martinson, 29, the son of Bruce and Cheryl Martinson, Schroeder, and a sterling Cook County ISD 166 High School graduate, completed the Superior Trail 100-mile trail race last weekend. Now residing in St. Paul, Kyle's roots in the community are still strong, and his achievement in the 102.9mile course in 34:59:55 is a source of local pride. He placed eighth in his age group (18-29) and finished 106th overall in the grueling race. Congratulations to Kyle!
On Thursday, September 5, the Vikings lost 25-9, 25-23, and 25-18 to a talented Floodwood Polar Bear volleyball team. In game one, the Polar Bears clawed their way to a 15-3 lead over our Vikings.
Yvonne Marie (Denault) Block passed away on September 4th, 2024, at the age of 88. She is preceded in death by her parents Emedee and Grace Denault; her brothers Robert and Laverne, and sister Doreen. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years (Bob) and five sons: Bob, Ray, Steve (Patty), Dave (Meghan), and Bruce; grandchildren Eryn, Peter, Brittany, Scott, Billy, Abbie, Molly, Bridget, Keira, Rush, Tara, Yvonne, Anna, Sydney and Ellie; great grandchildren Camden, Theodore, Zoe, Jacob, Xavier, Thea and Natalie; Ross, Reese, Ryan, Rebecca.
