On September 9, the first day of school, Great Expectations School kicked off the year with a heartfelt ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the official opening of their new, permanent home. The event was filled with joy and excitement as families, staff, and community members gathered to celebrate this significant milestone.
The Cook County Commissioners have set Tuesday, September 24, as a date to consider voting on a proposed page of the Cook County cannabis ordinance. The ordinance covers administration and enforcement, registration of cannabis business, the requirements of a cannabis business, lower potency hemp edibles, prohibited acts by underage persons, and the possibility of the local government as a retailer of cannabis.
Cook County Administrator James Joerke presented a proposal to set the preliminary property tax levy for fiscal year 2025 at 9.81 percent. He justified this figure by citing the need for 3 percent cost-of-living wage adjustments and the 9.65 percent health insurance increases, among other raises in the county budget. Joerke also highlighted that the preliminary levy can be adjusted downwards but not upwards.
