Vikings football team shuts down the Blackduck Drakes
Behind a stout offense and stingy defense, the Cook County Vikings football team traveled to Blackduck last Friday and beat the home team 33-6. The Vikings scored 13 points in the first quarter and six points in the second.

Superior National Forest hires a new Gunflint District Ranger
The Superior National Forest is excited to announce Kyle Stover as the new Gunflint District Ranger, located in Grand Marais, MN. Kyle has been a Superior National Forest employee for nine years.


Workforce housing projects are coming along, although not as fast as some had hoped
Early this spring, there was a palpable sense of optimism as half a dozen or so workforce housing projects, including the 51-unit Gunflint Vue project in Creechville (pictured here), received grant funding or other types of aid to help keep developer’s costs down. This progress, exemplified by the Gunflint Vue project, instilled hope that some of the housing needs would be addressed sooner rather than later. However, the rest of the projects are moving slower than initially anticipated.

Commissioners approved HR Director Allison Plummer's request to have Nancie Deming promoted to the Children and Family Service Supervisor position. Nancie replaces Rachael Schauer, who resigned.
MnDOT invites schools and communities to take part in Walk to School Day on Oct. 9
ST. PAUL, Minn. – More than 170 Minnesota schools and thousands of students are expected to participate in 28th annual Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 9, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
