Superior National Forest Restricts Campfire Use Within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness & Modifies Wood Lake Fire Closure Drying conditions continue across northern Minnesota prompts campfire restrictions & modifies closures of lakes and portages around the Wood Lake Fire Due to continued dry conditions and worsening wildfire danger conditions, the Superior National Forest has issued an Emergency Forest Order 09-09-24-08 - effective October 1, 2024 - restricting the igniting, building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire, including charcoal grills and barbeques, coal, and woodburning stoves to reduce the likelihood of a wildfire within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) of the Superior National Forest. (Forest Order 09-09-24-08).

Enhanced Federal Subsidies Continue to Improve Affordability for 2025 Health Insurance

With enhanced federal subsidies continuing through 2025, Minnesotans who need health insurance for next year can look forward to signing up through MNsure, Minnesota’s official health insurance marketplace. Minnesota Department of Commerce has published final rates for 2025, and MNsure’s open enrollment period starts November 1.

David Hahn Art Days

The Grand Marais Art Colony will offer the third annual David Hahn Art Days, October 17 - 18 at Studio 21 (21 West Highway 61). The event runs from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and everyone is invited to participate in free art activities on a drop-in basis. No pre-registration is necessary.
