Kids learn traditional wild rice harvesting and processing techniques

From soups to hotdishes and salads to stuffings, many Minnesotans are familiar with wild rice as a staple of the Midwestern diet. Fewer are aware of the tools and methods used for harvesting and processing manoomin (wild rice) and the deep cultural significance this plant continues to hold for traditional Ojibwe lifeways and treaty rights.

Two North Shore Storm runners qualify for state cross country meet

Under the guidance of April Wahlstrom, the North Shore Storm's boys and girls cross-country teams, comprising primarily of young runners, have shown remarkable potential this year. The future of the team looks promising, especially with the outstanding performance of two of our runners, Nick Swartz and Sophia Schut, who have qualified for the state cross country meet on November 2 at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course.
