A few weeks ago, we wrote about the origin of Minnesota Counties’ names. All 87 were listed with their county seat towns and their general location in our state. We also wrote there were many things worth analyzing. Today we have room for that.
Owner Chris Homyak said there will be some interruption for people wanting to fill their vehicles up at Clearview General Store in Lutsen while the gasoline tanks are removed and replaced with newer ones.
Cook County would like to address concerns about the Gunflint Trail bridge construction stoplights and how they may impact emergency vehicles. Delays at this intersection were discussed in detail by the Cook County Highway Department, Cook County Emergency Management and North Shore Health EMS during preconstruction, specifically the potential delay of an emergency vehicle. EMS crews were properly informed and educated about how to maneuver under these circumstances. All parties agreed that for safety purposes, the stoplights must be honored by all vehicles.

Sealed bids will be received by the Cook County Auditor at the Cook County Courthouse, 411 W. 2nd Street, Grand Marais, MN 55064 until 2:00 pm Monday June 2nd, 2025, at which place and time they will be publicly opened and read. Bids are for the purchase and installation of two stationary electric material handlers. Material handlers must have a minimum of 75hp with a 20’ lift capacity of 9,100 pounds and ability to control remotely from a control room. Full description and specifications of the project may be examined and secured in person at the Auditor’s Office at the Cook County Courthouse or by calling Dustin Hanson at 218-264-9566. The County reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids and to waive any irregularities and informalities therein and to award the contract to the lowest responsible bidder in the manner deemed in the best interest of the County.
