Vikings track season comes to a close at the May 28 Section 7A track and field meet
Under the leadership of Viking Head Boys and Girls Track Coach April Wahlstrom, the Vikings have shown remarkable progress, posting their best seasons in years. Although no one made it to the state meet, the strong performances of our returning athletes are a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Temporary Road Closure on Cascade Beach Road
Construction for the new bridge crossing Spruce Creek on Cascade Beach Rd (UT 97) will begin Monday, June 2, 2025. Cascade Beach Rd will be closed from Spruce Creek Cabins (address # 4146) to Spruce Falls Cabins (address # 4140). This project is expected to be completed by mid-August. Spruce Creek Cabins may be reached from the west on Cascade Beach Rd or from Highway 61. The access to Spruce Falls Cabins will not be hindered.
Oberg to Dean’s List at UW-Superior
The University of Wisconsin-Superior has named Amery Oberg of Grand Marais to the Dean’s List for academic achievement during the Spring 2025 semester.
Vikings do well at the 7A Sub-Section track meet
The Vikings’ boys’ track secured a commendable third place at the 2025 7A North Sub-Sectional Track meet held on May 22 in Aurora at the Mesabi East Sports Complex. The boys scored 118 points, a mere seven points behind Mesabi East’s winning team. The girls’ team also put up a strong performance, securing seventh place with 54 points, ahead of five other teams.

Spring After-School Junior Pickleball Camp a Success
Fifteen students , one in Grade 2 and the rest in Grades 3-6, recently participated in a spring after-school pickleball camp, in Grand Marais. This camp was a joint collaboration with the Cook County Tennis and Pickleball Association and Community Education. This is the second consecutive year an after-school junior pickleball camp has been offered during the spring. This twoweek after-school program was held May 12-22, Monday-Thursday, 3:304:30 pm at the public tennis/pickleball courts in Grand Marais. Fortunately, there was no rain during the camp, but there were several windy days which makes hitting the ball a little more challenging.

Senator Hauschild Secures $5 Million in Matching Funds for Cook County Public Schools
Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown) announced on May 30, 2025, that $5 million in matching funds for Cook County Public Schools has been included in the proposed budget of the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB), which was reviewed during their May 29 meeting.
Cook County Commissioner meeting highlights for May 27
With the final architectural and engineering drawings complete, Cook County Commissioners approved to solicit bids for the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) expansion and remodel at the board’s May 27 meeting.
