Grand Marais Lions Club welcomes everyone to the Fisherman’s Picnic

It is no small effort to organize and run a four-day festival, but the Grand Marais Lion's Club has been successful at it for more than 90 years! Growing up here, short of Christmas, my favorite time of the year was the Fisherman's Picnic and all the events and fun activities available for kids. Some of the events have changed— there is no more grease pole over the harbors with a ten-dollar bill attached to the end of it—walk the pole and dive for it, and if you grab it, it is yours.

As I See It

It is incredible how fast the summer months go here in Northern Minnesota. Between parades, community events, visits along the Northshore with the kids, and so much more, the time really flies.

A note to District 4

As I write this, several pieces to the issue of my candidacy have yet to be answered, but you, voters in District 4 particularly, need to know and prepare for the chance to file for a commissioner seat.

Writer wants to see the speed limit reduced on the Croftville Road

The article written by Cook County Highway Engineer Robbie Kimmel-Hass in last week's Cook County News Herald is a “gem” that the residents and folks that use the Croftville Road for recreation were waiting for. It indicates to us that he is lacking in common sense as a virtue in his background as an engineer. He spends a lot of time on the inconsistencies with the past practices for setting “speed limits” on curves on county highways. He uses the Gunflint Trail as an example. I have always thought that the suggested speed sign on curves was not the speed limit but a winter road recommendation that can be safely increased in the summer. I don't think these 'inconsistencies' create safety issues for road users.

Why I WON’T be voting for Kamala

On March 14 of this year, Kamala visited Minnesota. She could have toured a farm, a mine, a taconite plant, or small business. But no, instead she visited an abortion clinic, misnamed as Planned Parenthood. NBC stated proudly that she was likely to be the first vice-president to visit a clinic that performs abortions. Of course, her action was to cement Kamala’s and the Democrat Parity’s dark obsession with the need to terminate the lives of innocent unborn humans.
