Happy Hikers to hike Temperance River State Park July 31, 2024

Back by popular demand, the Happy Hikers will follow the trail along the east side of Temperance River beginning at the wayside rest area on Highway 61. The first one-third mile takes you through the Temperance River Gorge. Interpretive signs explain the fascinating geology and formation of the numerous waterfalls, cascades and cauldrons that make up the river gorge. Follow the river for another half mile. This route then breaks away from the river and takes you on a loop through the woods on your way back to the wayside. We will then cross Highway 61 and walk a short distance to a picnic area in the park where we will have our lunch. Wellbehaved dogs on a leash are welcome.

I Saw the Sign:Developing a Sign Policy

I Saw the Sign: Developing a Sign Policy Research has shown most people don’t pay attention to signs along roads. The road itself is the biggest determining factor in how we use the road; it’s horizontal and vertical alignment, how wide the lanes are, are there shoulders present, and where the tree line is located are just a few of the factors we all consider when driving down the road.

Writer explains why he backs Kamala Harris for President

A Republican friend asked, “How can you be 100% behind Biden last week and now be 100% behind Harris this week?” At first this question confused me, but I think the answer lies with that for many Republicans the choice of which candidate to vote for is based on the appeal of the one person who most boldly “takes strong and loud positions against those that believe differently than the voter” and most aggressively “advocates actions or threats to others that are threatening to the voter’s held values and concerns”. Maybe they seek someone to speak loudly and act aggressively addressing their fears, values and concerns. I can understand that, when I was a lot younger, I decided based on who I thought was the “best person”.

As I See It

Project 2025 is a 900+ page thorough blueprint by the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation and a coalition of conservative groups for how in the first 180 days of a Trump administration they plan to fundamentally change our government and country by extending the powers of the executive branch and giving the president the powers of an autocrat. With such a plan the president can then issue orders that will take away the American values of: rule of law, separation of church and state and civil rights while slashing Medicare, social security, and veterans’ benefits.
