When asked how the possible sale of ALLETE/Minnesota Power might affect the work at the 172 acre Taconite Harbor site, the former 225-megawatt coal-fire power electrical generating power plant that Minnesota Power shuttered in 2016 and is now being cleaned up, Amy Rudtledge, Director, Corporate Communications, said, “No, the acquisition will not affect the process that’s currently underway. As you are probably aware, Cook County EDA’s Taconite Harbor strategic process is funded through DEED’s Energy Transition Office. This process is a community-led exploration and a conversation that is facilitated by a third-party consultant (Stantec). They have done similar strategic planning projects in Minnesota. MN Power is looking forward to engaging in the conversation. This process is open to the public, and for those who are interested, will have the opportunity to participate.”
