Tofte General Store gets an extensive remodel

On Tuesday, May 27, at the Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation (IRRR) Board meeting, it was announced that an estimated $9.5 million in business loans and grants, $2.9 million in housing grants, $793,652 in infrastructure grants and $52,600 in trails grants were reviewed to advance projects in northeastern Minnesota.

Girls on the Run held their practice 5k run on Sunday, May 19th on the Gitchi-Gami State Trail. Fifteen of the twenty-two participants along with their running buddies and coaches started and finished a fun run at Cut Face Creek Wayside.

BRIAN LARSEN An always tough Esko team claimed the top spot in the boys' competition at the Polar League Conference track meet, while our Vikings, with their unwavering spirit, secured a commendable sixth place with 46 points out of ten schools. The Esko girls also showed their mettle, clinching the first position, while our Vikings girls, with their determination, secured the tenth spot with 27 points.
BRIAN LARSEN The Vikings baseball team traveled to Barnum on May 13 to face the always-tough Barnum Bombers baseball team. Our Vikings led 3-2 after the first inning and 4-2 after the third inning ended.
BRIAN LARSEN It was a tough weekend for the Cook County High School baseball team, losing three games. While the team plays a flurry of games—some make-up and some regularly scheduled— before the playoffs, one thing is sure: the Vikings' bats have gone quiet.

While the Minnesota legislative session ended in a mess—with some critical legislation not acted on—the pieces most important to Cook County came through with flying colors: money for area EMS departments, county-wide infrastructure projects, and dollars for ISD 166. The 2024 Legislative Session will be remembered as a major success for Cook County, says Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown), who worked to deliver major budget and policy wins, bringing millions of dollars in public works projects, community development and investments for local infrastructure and schools that will create jobs and ensure communities throughout the region can thrive.
