Authorities have suspended the search for Gene Adam Doherty, 40, from Silver Bay. Doherty was last seen on July 1, when he left his mother’s house near the town of Silver Bay.
Historical Reflections
The Grand Marais Lions Club welcomes you back for the 96th annual Fisherman’s Picnic. To say we have been busy getting ready for our biggest fundraiser of the year would be an understatement. A huge heartfelt thanks to the dedicated volunteers and local businesses who make Fisherman’s Picnic possible. All proceeds go to supporting local nonprofits, schools and service organizations that help make our community strong.
Matters
Representative Roger Skraba (R-Ely) has been recognized by the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities (CGMC) and awarded the Legislator of Distinction award. Skraba received this award for his support for Greater Minnesota economic development priorities and his advocacy for Local Government Aid and TIF policies that will help Greater Minnesota.
Anissa Rogness, Director of Government Relations for Minnesota Public Radio, was kind enough to answer some questions about the possible cuts in federal funding to local public radio stations.
Cook County Commissioner Ginny Storlie presented an update on county matters to the Lutsen Township Board of Supervisors at its July 15 meeting.
On July 30 the Happy Hikers will begin at the SHT trailhead on Pike Lake Rd., CR 45. We will follow the trail along the east side of the Cascade River. This is a beautiful hike along the river, with many stunning views of rushing water and waterfalls. We will continue hiking the varied terrain and elevation through cedar, pine, alder, and birch. There are a few steep sections and one fairly easy water crossing. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome. We will enjoy our lunch in the park picnic area down by the lake. This is a through hike and will require a shuttle back to our vehicles.
It’s been several months since Annie Buresh accepted the job as the Cook County History Museum and Collection Manager for Historic Cook County, which was formerly called the Cook County Historical Society. I met her at the open reception for the Bally Blacksmith shop last weekend during the Grand Marais Art Colony Art Fair show and she agreed to an interview.
