Cougar spotted in Cook County

Mountain Lion sitings are rareinCookCounty.Onewas seen in June 2022 in the Pike Lake Area, and over the years, a cougar has been repeatedly seen near South Shore Drive in the Devil Track Lake area.

Free YMCA Youth Day Passes are back!

Cook County PHHS is excited to announce that more free youth day passes are available at the YMCA. These passes are available to any Cook County youth under the age of 18 and the accompanying adult for youth ages 10 and under. There is no paperwork to complete, just check in at the front desk.

BWCAW permits open January 13, 2024

Are you planning a trip into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness? Then, make sure to apply for a permit. There isn't a lottery for permits anymore, so reservations for all entry points can be made on a first-come, first-served basis starting Wednesday, January 31, at 9 a.m.

No snow? The Nordic ski team treks on

It may be brown and a bit dreary this December, but don't let that fool you – the enthusiasm of the High School Nordic ski team offers many reasons to cheer! Two meets have already happened and training is underway. Of course, preparation for the season actually began in the summer as the high school team transitioned from being a collaborative effort with Two Harbors to an independent Cook County High School Team. The transition created additional tasks from designing racing suits and jackets, writing grants (to be able to purchase those ski suits and additional ski gear), to sewing a new Cook County Ski banner (thank you, Volunteer Sallee)!
