Although the Cook County News-Herald knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. The News-Herald shares these stories as a reminder to all to be safe and to follow the rules!

During a special board meeting on June 30, the Cook County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to hire Kristen Trebil-Halbersma to become the new Cook County Administrator.

Commissioners approved two updates of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Emergency shelter operations, one with ISD 166 and the other for the YMCA.
The North House Wooden Boat Show and Summer Solstice Puppet Pageant were once again a big hit with locals and visitors to our area. Bright sunshine on both Friday and Saturday meant the North House campus was busy with hundreds of people participating in free Try-It fiber projects, such as weaving and spinning, a wood-fired bread flatbread area, and an all-kids cabin building project.
Heidi Kampitz, Director of the Cook County and Grand Marais Economic Development Authority (EDA), submitted her resignation to the EDA board on June 19.
William Ralph Dupont, 67, Eden Prairie, Minnesota, was cited for driving 73 mph in a 60 mph speed zone, and he was fined $135.00.
