Updated COVID-19 Vaccine recommended for everyone over six months of age

Last week the CDC recommended that all people over the age of 6 months receive an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves from severe outcomes due to COVID19 this fall and winter. Not only does vaccination continue to be the strongest protection against hospitalization and death due to COVID-19, but also it reduces your chance of suffering from Long COVID.

MnDOT installs Road Weather Information Systems in northern Minnesota

The Minnesota Department of Transportation recently added new Road Weather Information Systems at 10 locations in northern Minnesota to collect data that will help support agency maintenance decisions. The information, which includes camera images, is also sent to the National Weather Service and MnDOT’s 511 traveler information system. MnDOT now has 163 RWIS sites throughout the state.

Old Ski Hill Road

In early September, returning on the Gunflint Trail for the umpteenth time, I finally turned right on Old Ski Hill Road. Its entrance is shared with Cutoff Road, County 52; I had always said I should go west to see what was there. It turns out that though the ski hill is gone, there is plenty of there there, including 108 lots with named owners.

Prescribed Burning to continue across the Superior National Forest

The Superior National Forest plans to continue conducting pile burning and some understory broadcast burning throughout the month and maybe into October. Actual date and location of burns are dependent on weather conditions, fuels conditions, and available fire staffing resources. See attached maps for more information.
