Chasing Justice

I just finished reading Dick Dorr’s memoir of life and law in Cook County. Chasing Justice is a good read for those of us who weren’t born here or who want to recall the local history. It’s also good fodder for reflections of our justice system.

CROSS RIVER TO TEMPERANCE STATE PARK – JULY 2, 2025

The Happy Hikers will hike the Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) from the east side of the Cross River to Temperance River State Park. The hike begins on the SHT spur trail starting from the Skou Road SHT parking lot. The hike traverses gradually uphill and connects with the main SHT with a great view of the Cross River. We’ll hike east through a variety of different stands of trees and views of Lake Superior. The trail crosses Temperance Road, and we’ll hike the west side of the Temperance River. We’ll cross over to the east side of the river at the bridge and continue along the east side of the river to the parking lot. We’ll cross over Hwy 61 and have lunch in the picnic area along Lake Superior. This will be a through hike and a short car shuttle will be necessary from the Temperance River Park Wayside parking area back to the Skou Road SHT Parking Lot.

Artist’s Point, a new novel by Dave Saari

Dave Saari’s eighth novel again features the FYI Investigations team: wealthy young idealist Trey Isherwood, mother Madeleine, and wife and former FBI agent Sybil Atwater. The discovery of a mysterious and previously unknown painting by deceased Grand Marais artist Jolene Pinter offers the chance to overcome their reluctance to take on another case after a near disaster. Expecting to make quick work of tracking down a talented forger using their unique blend of high-tech investigative tools and methods, the team instead finds themselves drawn into a dark world of art crime. Once again, the situation spirals out of control as the team doggedly follows every new lead, leading to potentially fatal consequences. Could this be FYI’s last case? Find out in this thrilling tale of mystery and murder with entertaining bits of romance, humor, and golf.
