20 YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER 19, 2003 v Wish lists and harbor maps were unfolded at the Safe Harbor Advisory Committee meeting on Monday as members continued discussions about the possibility of developing a full-service marina in the Grand Marais harbor. Any development of a safe harbor and/or marina will require months, if not years, of work as well as the go-ahead by the city council, the U.S.

Ode to the Leaf Licker

As we bid adieu to our visitors viewing the fall leaf-changing season, I would like to take the time to extol the benefits of being a “leaf licker”. I am a self-professed “leaf licker,” defined as someone who deeply appreciates nature, especially trees and plants. This term suggests that the person is so enthusiastic about the outdoors that they might figuratively lick leaves or immerse themselves in nature to connect with it.

Vikings fall to Ely, Cromwell-Wright

It was a tough week for the Vikings girls' volleyball team as they wrapped up regular season play at home. On Monday, October 16, the Ely Timberwolves came to town to face the Vikings, and the Vikings were flat, losing 25-12, 25-11, and 25-7.
