Conservation Officer Tales

Although the Cook County News-Herald knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. The News-Herald shares these stories as a reminder to all to be safe and to follow the rules!

Potential cuts to Medicaid pose significant threats to the county

With the Federal government threatening Medicaid, Cook County Public Health and Human Services has provided a look at how many people could be impacted by any budgetary cutbacks and the Department of Human Services recently released a series of fact sheets on Medicaid or Medical Assistance in the State of Minnesota.

Government waste?

Recently many members of the community at the end of county 70 in Hovland received letters from COOP L&P requesting easements to allow for installation of electrical lines and broadband service. The letters state that the COOP has received federal funds to expand broadband into remote areas and this area was on the list. The area in question has no full-time residents and is comprised of nothing but 3 season cabins. While I would expect and support broadband development where it is needed, I cannot fathom using federal $ to send power and fiber into an area that will see little if any use.

Historical Reflections

When is no really no?

You're in Target, and your child asks you for a toy. You simply say, 'No, not today.' He tells you why, in a couple of words, he should have what he wants. You change your mind, relent, and get him the toy—were you wrong before?
