Democracy on display in townships
Recently many members of the community at the end of county 70 in Hovland received letters from COOP L&P requesting easements to allow for installation of electrical lines and broadband service. The letters state that the COOP has received federal funds to expand broadband into remote areas and this area was on the list. The area in question has no full-time residents and is comprised of nothing but 3 season cabins. While I would expect and support broadband development where it is needed, I cannot fathom using federal $ to send power and fiber into an area that will see little if any use.

A senior guard, Denali Blackwell, has led the Vikings in scoring for the last several years. This season, Denali averaged 20.7 points per game. He was second on the team in rebounding with an average of 6.8 boards per game, second in steals with a 1.8 game average, third in blocks with 0.7 per contest, first in free throw average with 78 percent of his free throws scoring, first in 3-point shot percentage with 37 percent of his tries finding the bottom of the net, and he is a tough defender. Denali, a senior guard, was named First Team All-Conference for his outstanding play over the last year.

Although the Cook County News-Herald knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. The News-Herald shares these stories as a reminder to all to be safe and to follow the rules!
