Play Ball Some of Jerry’s favorite summer memories include playing baseball in Milwaukee with a great league. Jerry played catcher. Some of his team mates were good enough to get into the big leagues. His friend Tony Kubek played short stop for the New York Yankees. Kubek was 21 years old in 1957 when he won the American League Rookie of the Year Award.

Duluth East dominates the North Shore Challenge cross country meet

The annual North Shore Challenge high school cross-country meet, held on the Pincushion Trails, featured some of the best big and small schools in the region. The meet was held on Thursday, August 28, on a perfect day for running, with temperatures in the mid-60s, a light breeze, and dry trails.

Viking girls fall to the Silver Bay Mariners and the Cherry Tigers

On August 27, the Vikings played the Silver Bay Mariners and despite the close loss of two games, 25-23 and 2522, the team’s effort was commendable. Scarlet Higgins and Amber Theiner each had five kills, and Bea Muller had 13 assists in the game to lead the Vikings.
