Cook County Commissioners set the 2025 County budget and levy

On Tuesday, December 17, by a 3-2 vote, the Cook County Commissioners passed a 5 percent increase in the levy over 2024, which was their ultimate goal. They lowered the proposed levy of 9.81 percent set in September. The proposed budget of $13,396,910, an increase of $1,196,623 over 2024, was decreased, but it was reduced by borrowing from PILT funds with few cuts made to arrive at a five percent levy increase.

Thank you, Printha Moe

One person can make a huge difference in life, and Printha Moe did this for us. Many years ago she sold us land so we could build our dream home in Cook County. Additionally, her husband Norman agreed to build our home. Printha and Norman were wonderful to work with and our retirement home became a reality. Over 21 years of life in the Northwoods, our home was a warm and secure place for family and friends. Because of health we no longer live in Cook County, but we will never forget the support and encouragement shared by the Moes to make our dream a reality.

Minnesota DNR shares reminders about the snowmobile riding season

As snowmobile riders prepare for the upcoming riding season, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds riders of important dates, safety tips and registration requirements. While the snowmobile riding season can start as early as Dec. 1, as yet this year there are no locations in the state with suitable conditions for trail grooming. Several conditions must be met before trails are open, groomed and ready for travel: The ground must be frozen. Where trails cross wetlands, 15 inches of ice are needed to support the weight of trail groomers.
