With enhanced federal subsidies continuing through 2025, Minnesotans who need health insurance for next year can look forward to signing up through MNsure, Minnesota’s official health insurance marketplace. Minnesota Department of Commerce has published final rates for 2025, and MNsure’s open enrollment period starts November 1.

An article published last week regarding Dean Berglund who is running for 4th District Commissioner, mentioned that he sits on the Board of the Cook County Coalition of Lake Associations and that he is the President of the Devil Track Lake Association. Neither of these are true. I have been the CCCoLA Chair for the past 2 years and been a member for 3. Dean hasn’t attended a CCCoLA meeting or been on the Board during this time. Our minutes, published on our website, indicate that he attended 1 meeting in 2019, but there is no further record of his participation in our organization. Jerry Wilkes is the Devil Track Lake Association President and represents the DTLA on the CCCoLA Board.
Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown) was in Washington D.C. this week to meet with members of Minnesota’s congressional delegation and White House officials to discuss the EMS reforms and aids passed in the MN Legislature, the challenges continuing to face rural EMS, and what can be done at the federal level to address it.
The absence of snow this past winter and the abundance of rain in June, along with the influence of inflation, have at least in part seemingly affected the Cook County lodging and transportation taxes. These factors (and others) have contributed to a decrease in tax revenue, which is lower than the amount collected at the halfway point of 2024.
A small wildfire burning near Daniels Lake near Mid-Trail on the Gunflint Trail has been contained with DNR crews mopping up. A lightning strike was determined to be the cause of the fire.
Anne Flueckiger of Duluth, Minnesota died September 26, 2024 after a brief illness. Anne was born May 1, 1969 in Oxford, Ohio to Gerald (Jerry) and Jane Flueckiger.
