Rep. Roger Skraba Secures Critical Funding for Nursing Homes Across the Northland

On Thursday, August 15, State Representative Roger Skraba, R-Ely, announced that six nursing homes in the Northland have received a second round of direct payments totaling $1,190,529 million to be used to address outstanding debts and facility improvements. It is part of a statewide nursing home package totaling $300 million, championed by House Republicans and approved on an overwhelming bipartisan basis during the 2023 legislative session.

The Cook County Chamber

The Cook County Chamber of Commerce Annual Membership Drive and Fish Fry, held on Wednesday, August 21st, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Visit Cook County Information Center (116 W Hwy 61, Grand Marais), drew a nice crowd. The event was designed to be inclusive, welcoming both Chamber members and those not yet Chamber members to the casual, outdoor gathering. North Superior Fisheries, a brand new member of the Chamber, provided fresh, local fish. A Raffle Drawing was held at 6 p.m. (after the paper's deadline) for an 11'2 Zebrawood All Day Greyduck Paddle Board. Attendees had the exciting opportunity to meet fellow business owners and community members, fostering new connections and learning about the benefits of membership and how the Chamber supports local businesses. All in all, it was a nice event with a welcoming, fun, atmosphere.
