Conservation Officer Tales

Although the Cook County News-Herald knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. The News-Herald shares these stories as a reminder to all to be safe and to follow the rules!

Grand Marais Garden Club looking to grow

It may be August, but there’s still plenty of summer left and the Grand Marais Garden Club is continuing to meet to learn about various garden topics and tour area gardens. Our August meeting will feature Garden Club member Linda Preus, who will share information with us about Collecting Lilies and Daylilies. After the meeting, we will have a tour of Linda’s garden, which is bursting with blooms for us to enjoy!

Some Ado about Ado

Some Ado about Ado I was listening to this story, a good story, an enjoyable story, an entertaining story and then the storyteller quickly wraps it and says, “so without further ado” and proceeded to get onto a whole other thing. And I wanted to say: Wait? What? I was really enjoying that ado.

Meet In the Middle— for Pickleball?

Mark Saturday and Sunday, August 17th and 18th on your calendars. That is the date of the third Meet in the Middle Pickleball tournament in Grand Marais. (The middle here is in between Duluth and Thunder Bay and all points between.)

Hitchhikers

It was just about our hottest day, burning bright at noon with the blue sky and me wondering how the trees could survive in that kind of parched heat. It was nice for rolling down the windows in the truck, and, driving the old residential streets of Grand Marais, up the slope from the big lake and harbor, along the shade trees, it was just all-around good.
