Littfin elected to executive committee at Great River Energy

Mike Littfin was elected Secretary of the Great River Energy Board of Directors at the GRE June Meeting. Littfin, a five-term member of the Arrowhead Cooperative Board of Directors, has served in various executive and committee leadership positions at both Cooperatives.

County Board awards State Public Aid funds

BRIAN LARSEN At the July 9, 2024, county board meeting, Commissioners approved distributing $179,095 of State Public Aid funding to the Violence Prevention Center ($100,000), North Shore Health ambulance ($68,600), and the Cook County Sheriff's Office ($10,000). The VPC will use the funds to offset a decrease in federal funds.

County Board highlights for July 9 commissioner’s meeting

Cook County Commissioners met on July 9 for their regularly scheduled board meeting and reviewed a lengthy agenda. Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen came before the board with a request to rescind Resolution 2005-89 to change the Sheriff 's residency policy to help recruit and retain the Sheriff 's Office staff.

Grand Marais Rec Park numbers up

Grand Marais Rec Park Director Dave Tersteeg reported a promising financial update for 2024 at the park board's Tuesday, July 2 board meeting. Tersteeg said the revenue through the end of June totals $775,000, which marks an encouraging eight percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Gustavus Adolphus College announces 2024 Spring Semester Dean’s List

The Spring Semester Dean's List at Gustavus Adolphus College has been released and two students from Cook County are on it. Ellen Callender, Grand Marais, and Aurora Schelmeske, Grand Marais, both achieved a grade point average of 3.7 (based on a scale in which 4.0 = A) or higher for the semester ending in May 2024.
