Superior Hiking Trail Maintenance near Duluth

(July 2, 2024, Two Harbors, Minn.) The Superior Hiking Trail Association is seeking extra volunteers during July to help cut back grass and brush, which is thicker than usual due to higher than normal rainfall. Keeping grass and brush cut back from the trail provides greater accessibility and a better user experience, but also creates a more sustainable trail needing less maintenance in the future.

Reading and math tutors needed

Did you know that fewer than a third of Minnesota students are achieving critical proficiency in math and reading? That's why AmeriCorps is looking for 900 tutors statewide to start this fall in their 3 primary programs: Reading Corps, Math Corps, and Early Learning Corps. Six are needed in the Babbitt/Cook County area.

Happy Hikers

Per a request from one of last year’s hikers, the Happy Hikers will tackle the Drainpipe section of the Superior Hiking Trail at Tettegouche State Park. From the trailhead, we will walk uphill for a bit until we get to the SHT.

Poplar River Snowmobile Trail Bridge will be replaced

BRIAN LARSEN The Poplar River Snowmobile Bridge, destroyed by flooding in the spring of 2022, will be rebuilt using a variety of grant money and donations. Northland Construction of Duluth will replace the Poplar River Bridge at a lump sum price of $492,500.
