A 56-acre Superior National Forest Service prescribed fire got out of hand last week and grew to 265 acres by Saturday, May 18, when firefighting crews had the fire 90 percent contained. The 'Fry fire', which was initially a prescribed burn, was declared a wildfire on May 15.
Northland Foundation announced grants of more than half a million dollars on May 20, with several grants going to Grand Portage and Cook County.
