Time to catch up on errors and omissions. The biggest correction goes to Eagle Mountain. After dissing it to less than 2,000 feet, I learned from an Eagle Mountain rescue that it is 2,301 feet above mean sea level. Still not an Alp or Rocky, but higher no the less.

Flintlock Range Association update
On Friday, April 26, the Flintlock Range Association had its first membership event hosted at Up Yonder from 5:00 7:00 p.m. The event was well attended, with over 100 people there showing support for the organization.

The hosting organization was the Boundary Waters Advisory Committee (BWAC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that restores, maintains, and advocates for Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness trails.

Community journalism is alive and well in two central Minnesota communities today even as they face the loss of their historic local newspapers. CherryRoad Media, the nation’s fastest growing newspaper company, announced today, April 26th, that it will open newspapers in Hutchinson and Litchfield, MN, to fill the void left with the closing of the Hutchinson Leader and the Litchfield Independent Review.
First County Wildfire Safety meeting held in Hovland
The first in a series of wildfire safety meetings was held last Saturday morning at the Hovland Town Hall. Thirty-six people attended the meeting to listen to the valuable information provided by four different presenters: Aaron Molin-Kling (Firewise Coordinator), Andrea Tofte (Cook County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator), Ann Sullivan (County Board Chair), and Bob Svaleson (Hovland Fire Department).
Bear hunt applications due Friday, May 3
Prospective bear hunters have until Friday, May 3 to apply for a bear hunting license from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Applications for the 2024 season can be submitted online, at any license agent or by telephone at 888-665-4236.
