Outdoors

Every place has a place like this place I have this place that I go to near here, where in the spring the river is a river and it tries with all its force and wile and guile and tumult to flush the creek chubs and steelhead fries and steelhead smolt out to the great inland sea like some pod of goldfish flushed down the toilet. But this is a contest a myriad years old, and the little riverine fishes find cover from the current in the flooded bottoms, behind standing tree trunks, in the tuft grasses, in the flooded brush.
