Melissa Brown, Grand Portage, was named to the President's List at Pine Technical and Community College. Students named to the President's List must have enrolled in 12 credits or more and received a grade point average of 4.0, a straight A average.

Success in the Pool: Duluth YMCA Swimmers Shine at Regional Championship meet
Over this past weekend, March 22-24, the Duluth Area Family YMCA sent 8 swimmers, including 3 swimmers from the Cook County Branch, to Marion, Iowa to compete in the YMCA North Central Region’s Regional Championship Swim Meet. This meet was held at the Lin Mar Aquatic Center and was attended by the top swimmers from around the North Central Region, which includes Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska.

Conservation Officer Tales
Although the Cook County News-Herald knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. A necropsy performed by the pathologists at Colorado State Veterinary Diagnostic on “Isabelle” the lone grey wolf found dead on the shore of Lake Superior in Grand Portage, determined that a lightweight pellet shot from an air gun killed her.
