Gym Renovation Project Success

Due to an outpouring of community support, what started out as a quest for funding for a new scoreboard for the gym at the Cook County Community YMCA has happily turned into a much more comprehensive gym renovation project. Of course, the new scoreboard is the centerpiece of the project. But because of the generous contributions of many individuals and local businesses, grants from non-profits, and financial support and in-kind contributions of volunteers and public entities, much more will have been accomplished, including:

North Shore Health Board Determines 2026 Tax Levy

During their August 21, 2025, meeting, the board of directors of North Shore Health unanimously voted a $284,625 or 15% increase to the hospital district property tax levy in 2026. The funds raised help to bridge the costs of providing essential medical services that Medicare, Medicaid and other insurances do not adequately cover.

Commissioners hold special meeting to set a PHHS contract

The Cook County Commissioners convened a special meeting on Wednesday, September 3. The primary agenda was to establish a contract for the clinical supervision of the Public Health and Human Services department. Additionally, the meeting aimed to finalize a construction manager contract with Johnson Wilson Constructors for the Cook County Law Enforcement Center addition and remodel.
