Rural Hospital Health Care

As a concerned citizen living in Cook County and as an actuary whose clients included hospitals and physician clinics, my motivation for writing the following is to bring to light a broader perspective on rural health care.

Oddz & Endz has record year

Last year was tremendous for Oddz & Endz—and the community-- in more ways than one. The volunteer nonprofit thrift store recorded 113 percent growth over 2022 sales and increased its community investment by 38 percent from $80,000 in 2022 to $110,000 in 2023, spreading those dollars to 21 local nonprofits.

Boys defeat Hill City

The Cook County boys’ basketball team traveled to Hill City on Monday, Feb. 12 and to face the Hill City Hornets and came away with an impressive 68-55 victory.

Three sign on National Signing Day

Three Cook County High School seniors put their pens to paper on Wednesday, February 7, each signing a National Letter of Intent to play their favorite sport in a school that is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

COUNTY CONNECTIONS

Updating the 10-Year Transportation Plan The Cook County Highway Department updates its 10-year transportation plan annually to reflect upcoming improvements to our infrastructure system. Factors such as pavement quality, bridge ratings, and funding sources go into determining which projects get scheduled.

JV looks to rebuild girls’ basketball program

With Cook County not boasting a girls' varsity basketball team this year it has fallen on the Junior Varsity to rebuild the program. Despite fielding an 0-5 record, Vikings Head Coach Levi Libra likes what he has seen so far.

Fire at Lutsen Resort

Many in Cook County mourned when they learned that a fire roared through Minnesota’s oldest resort, Historic Lutsen Lodge, and burned it to the ground on February 6.
