


Vikings defeat South Ridge Panthers to even the series
The last time these two teams met, the South Ridge Panthers upended the Cook County Vikings by one point in double overtime at South Ridge. That game was played on December 1, 2023. This game would be different, but for a while, it seemed like the Panthers had Cook County's number.
Conservation Officer Tales
Although the Cook County News-Herald knows that the majority of sportsmen and women are law-abiding folks, there are a few that run afoul of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officers. Periodically, the DNR provides a report of some of the miscreants the Conservation Officers (CO) have encountered. The News-Herald shares these stories as a reminder to all to be safe and to follow the rules!

Johnson Heritage Post Public Art Project survey
The Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery and Historic Cook County are reaching out to full or part time residents of Cook County to participate in a survey. We have begun working with artist Sam Gathje to create a Site-Specific Public Art Project that will occupy the center space of the JHP courtyard.

Bush Foundation Grant to Launch St. Luke’s and Doulas of Duluth’s transformational program for expectant parents
A $1.7 million grant from the Bush Foundation is funding an innovative new program that will enhance access to doula support for birthing families at St. Luke’s Birthing Center. Called Plus One Doula Program, the initiative seeks to enhance birth equity, as well as support healthier pregnancies and deliveries throughout our region.

The Cook County News-Herald publishes Matters of Record to inform the public of arraignments and dispositions of criminal cases in which the punishment exceeds $150 and/or ten days in jail and/or includes one year of supervised adult probation. It is the Cook County News-Herald’s policy that this information contains a complete record. Requests for items to be withheld will not be granted.

Wellness
With the New Year comes new sniffles. Up here in the Arrowhead region we are now in deep winter, although it took a while to arrive this year. Just as the seasons are cyclical, so are our bodies. It’s never fun, but getting sick is how our bodies upgrade our immune system so that we can fight off more invaders in the future (your future self thanks you). That said, we don’t have to bundle up and sit here complacently! There are actions we can take to boost the odds of our immune systems.
