Boys lose first two, win one to start the season

Playing without a couple of starters and several bench players, the boys lost to South Ridge on December 1 and lost to a senior laden Carlton/Wrenshall team, 94-54 on Tuesday, December 5. The away game against South Ridge was a barn burner with the boy’s losing 57-56 in doubleovertime.

2023 CCHS Football Banquet held

Last week, the Cook County High School Viking football team held its fall banquet and handed out awards and accolades. The Vikings ended their season with one playoff win and sported a 5-5 record for the year.

Letteracy Deck

Anne Brataas took her Letteracy Desk inside the Lake Superior Trading Post last Saturday. She hosted a day of writing letters to Santa and offered gift wrapping to folks buying Christmas presents in the store.

COUNTY CONNECTIONS

Cook County Year-End Update Over the last 12 months Cook County Government has made good progress on two major initiatives that will position the organization to continue to provide high quality public services as the county continues to grow. A capital improvement planning process that the County initiated in 2022 was completed this past spring with significant input from the County’s Budget and Facilities Advisory Committee and county residents.

Gunflint Hills Golf Course 2023 review

Gunflint Hills Golf Course Superintendent Paul Jones reported that the 2023 golf season was the best he has seen in his five years managing the city-owned course. Jones issued his year-end report to the Rec Park Board at the meeting held on Tuesday, December 5.
