Homage to Librarians

I probably shouldn't be writing my first letter to the editor with this brain fog, but write I must. I find myself a week+ into COVID. Zero stars. It's my first time so I know I'm lucky on many levels.

COUNTY CONNECTIONS

In Cook County this fall we watched the beautiful leaves turn color and fall and had an above average temperature deer season. But as the air turns crisp, we know that a Minnesota winter is soon on the way. Even though we are hearty northlanders, it’s a good time to refresh our cold weather skills and ensure that we are prepared for winter challenges.

Frank Junior Fredlund ‘Coach’

December 22, 1932 – November 8, 2023 Frank was born to Frank and Clara (Jary) Fredlund in Bear River, MN. He graduated from Alango High School in 1950. He attended Hibbing Community College for two years, served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55, and then earned his master’s degree from St. Cloud State.

Let’s make some toys!

This month, area libraries will be offering Handmade Toy Take & Create Art Kits as the Arrowhead Library System’s (ALS) newest Legacy event, available December 4-30. This art experience, created by 321 Art Studio, explores toy making for beginners.

Peck just misses a double-double

Katie Peck scored ten points and pulled down nine rebounds in the Minnesota North-Mesabi Range Lady Norse basketball home opener. The Lady Norse lost 62-55 to Bay College.

The community is still left wondering why Dr. Dahlman was fired

Approximately 60 people crowded into the hospital board's meeting room last Thursday morning to learn why a doctor with 39 years of service was terminated. On November 1, 2023, Dr. Bruce Dahlman was told by Wapitit Medical Staffing, Health Care Agency, that he would no longer be employed. Located in Milbank, South Dakota, Wapiti hires emergency room doctors to serve at North Shore Health and other rural hospitals in the upper Midwest.

Grand Portage Hat Point Ferry Terminal to undergo a major rebuild

Even though there wasn't a golden shovel on site, a tremendous 'groundbreaking' ceremony was held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, to acknowledge the culmination of nine years of planning and work to ensure that the Grand Portage Hat Point Ferry Terminal would get rebuilt.
