I am writing to express my profound dismay regarding the recent dismissal of Dr. Bruce Dahlman from North Shore Health. This is a serious mistake. I have known Dr. Dahlman for over 30 years. I was his supervisor when we worked together for several years in Kenya. He is a superb clinician. The patient comes first in all that he does. He is kind and compassionate. He practices with the highest ethical standards. His academic qualifications are impeccable. He has considerable administrative skills and is a consummate team player. How could anyone even consider terminating a skilled family doctor with a 19-page CV and over 40 years of medical experience in remote, underserved communities? Something is amiss.

Also, since volunteers cannot prepare the shares until school is over, the time is changing as well. The drive-up distribution will run from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, starting November 14th. Vehicles should enter by the Sawtooth Mountain Elementary School at 5th Street / County Road 7 and 1st Ave East. If you'd like to volunteer or have questions, send an email to rubys@ boreal.org.
A few weeks ago, we took our dog, Rascal, for a romp at the Grand Marais dog park. When we entered, we heard loud barking and a commotion that sounded like a dog fight. We walked the other direction from the ruckus but were soon confronted by a ferocious big husky-shepherd looking dog who immediately proceeded to try to kill Rascal. The dog was out of control and her owner was nowhere in sight. I couldn’t stop myself. I screamed bloody murder, begging the owner to remove the dog from the park, which she quite nonchalantly did while telling us it was Rascal’s fault. We haven’t been back since.
