COUNTY CONNECTIONS

Care Coordination for Persons with Disabilities and those 65 Years and Older Cook County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) is one of many county health and human services agencies across the state that contracts with managed care companies to provide Care Coordination for persons with disabilities and individuals aged 65 and older. The following plans, administered by the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), offer Care Coordination as a benefit: Minnesota Senior Health Options (MSHO), Minnesota Senior Care Plus (MSC+), and Special Needs Basic Care (SNBC).

Kathleen 'Kathy/Katie' Koss Ehlers, age 61, of Ava, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on July 16, 2023. She was born October 9, 1961, to Nancy (Clevette) and Clayton Koss in Grand Marais, Minnesota, where she graduated from Cook County High School in 1980.

Eleanor L. Waha, 99, of Grand Marais, died Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at North Shore Health.

Jacob Johnson sentenced to 40 years for the killing of Ricky Balsimo Jr.

Jacob Colt Johnson, 37, of Superior, Wisconsin, was sentenced at the Cook County Courthouse on Monday, September 11 to 40 years in the custody of the Commissioner of Corrections for the killing of Ricky Balsimo Jr., 35 at the time of his death, from St. Paul, Minnesota.

PistenBully trail maker off to Ishpeming, Michigan

Brian Larsen On Thursday, September 7, several members of the North Shore Ski & Run Club helped load up and send the club’s 35-year-old PistenBully cross country ski trail grooming machine on its way to Ishpeming, Michigan, the home of the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame.

North Shore Storm did well at the Dan Conway cross country meet

The North Shore Storm Boys' and Girls' cross country teams traveled to the Dan Conway cross country meet held in Superior, Wisconsin, on Thursday, September 7, and achieved some outstanding results. “Cross Country is in full swing, and our young team has already seen a lot of improvement,' said Head Coach April Wahlstrom, who leads the Cook County/Two Harbors collaborative cross country boys and girls teams.

Retirement party held for Pastor David Harvey

This past Sunday was a bittersweet day of celebration for the people of the Evangelical Free Church. After faithfully leading the people for over 15 years, Pastor David Harvey retired from his pulpit ministry.
