Marilyn Jean Berglund, age 82, of Cannon Falls and formerly of Tofte, Grand Marais and Stillwater, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Cannon Country Assisted Living in Cannon Falls surrounded by her family after a courageous nine year journey with cancer.

The St. Francis Xavier/ Chippewa City Church has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1985, and has undergone previous repairs and studies in the past. One study done was a 2017 archeological survey and inventory conducted by Grand Portage National Monument employees and volunteers within the yard of the church. The twoweek long survey, which included shovel testing, unit evacuation, and metal detecting, was done to determine the state of the church foundation for later rehabilitation and repair, and to locate any potential archaeological remains that can be amended to the St. Francis National Register nomination.

Cook County Junior Varsity Vikings Volleyball on the rise

Under the direction of Coach Lori Wester and Assistant Coach Morgan Starkey, a young Junior Varsity team came out ahead with a winning season. The Cook County Vikings Junior Varsity team started things off with a win against Silver Bay before coming up short against a few powerhouse schools in the form of Esko and South Ridge.

Conservation Officer Tales

Bryan Hansel hadn't been on a long solo bicycle trip in the last few years, not since he biked from Duluth to Dubuque, Iowa to visit his parents. So, when he contemplated a long ride, he chose to do much of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Border to Border Touring Route.
